Black Bean Burgers

These black bean burgers are so delicious that you won’t even remember they don’t have any meat! My entire family loves these vegetarian burgers, including my husband, who is a meat eater. My secret is that I add different flavors to it. These burgers are delicious, easy to make and they’re perfect if you’re trying to reduce your intake of meat dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 (15 oz) cans of black beans, washed and drained, divided
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped into big pieces
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

To assemble the burgers

  • 4 – 6 hamburger buns
  • 1 sliced tomato
  • 4 leaves romaine lettuce or any other type of lettuce
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced

Instructions

  • Step

    In a food processor, put the black beans, onion, garlic, cilantro, egg, salt, and pepper. Pulse until a puree texture is reached.

    Pour the puree into a large bowl, add the remaining cup of black beans and the breadcrumbs. Mix until you get a smooth mixture.

    Lightly spray oil into a pan and heat over medium-low heat.

    Form 4 – 6 patties. Place them in the hot pan and fry them, 6 minutes per side or until slightly golden brown.

    To assemble the burgers: Place one patty over half a bun. Add the lettuce, tomato, and avocado to taste. Cover with the other half of the bun. Serve.
