  • I can hardly contain my excitement when a cake presents itself in front of me–my sweet tooth and I are pretty easy to please. But when it's a cake baked with BOURBON? Good lawdy, get me a fan and a bag to breathe into, stat. OK but seriously – who can deny the tastiness that is a cake baked with booze, especially when it's topped with a sweet brown butter glaze like this Boozy Spice Cake? It takes a person with great willpower (or a complete lack of a sweet tooth, a darn shame in my opinion) to say no to something as delicious and indulgent as this. For those of us with weak wills and knees for all things dessert, you're in luck because this cake takes only a handful of ingredients and two shakes to make. This is the good life! Whip up that lovely brown butter frosting and pour it immediately over the warm cake. The trick is to pour the glaze over the cake while both the glaze and the cake are still warm, so you get that perfectly ooey-gooey, beautiful mess look. KnowwhatImean? Pretty pretty spice cake. Oh, and tasty as all get-out, too. There you have it! Spicy, bourbon-y, buttery, beautiful cake. Perfect for Thanksgiving dessert, or just because your sweet tooth said so.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Delights Super Moist™ Spice Cake Mix
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

    Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a bundt pan and set aside.

    In a large bowl or bowl of a stand mixer, beat cake mix, water, oil, bourbon and eggs on low speed 30 seconds, then on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Fold in chopped walnuts, if desired.

    Pour batter into prepared pan and bake until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40-45 minutes. Remove cake from oven and cool 10 minutes before removing from pan. Transfer cake to serving plate.

    Meanwhile, make the glaze: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt and cook butter, whisking constantly, until butter browns and turns a caramel color. Strain butter into a large bowl.

    Add powdered sugar, vanilla and milk to bowl and stir to combine.

    Immediately pour glaze evenly over warm cake. Let glaze set and cake cool before slicing.
